Research and Graduate Support Specialist


UIW Mission


Position Summary
The Research and Graduate Support Specialist is responsible for providing professional-level support services, assistance and information to university stakeholders on confidential student matters. Position serves as a key administrative member of the Office of Research and Graduate Studies. The Research and Graduate Support Specialist reports to the Director of Graduate Studies and the Director of Research and Sponsored Projects Operations.

Job Duties


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • High level of computer literacy including the use of spreadsheets and databases;
  • Excellent writing and editing, verbal, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and administrators;
  • Ability to work independently, as well as take direction;
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality;
  • Ability to prioritize work, complete tasks thoroughly and accurately, and meet deadlines;
  • Positive customer service attitude;
  • Ability to maintain compliance with standards, policies, procedures, and regulations;
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to effectively;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the conference, and the NCAA.


Required Education
Bachelor's Degree.

Required Work Experience
Three (3) years of experience in a student support office or other relevant environment in higher education, such as a research or student success.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree;
  • Proficiency in social media outreach;
  • Experience in a graduate student support office or other relevant environment in higher education;
  • Experience in higher education administration, particularly working with student information and inquiries;
  • Experience with Banner applications, ARGOS, and form builders.

N/A.

Work Hours
Business hours of Mon-Fri 8am to 5pm with flexibility; extended hours as required, including occasional weekends and evenings based on departmental needs.

Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs for table set-up/tear-down at events.
  • Ability to reach overhead, bend, squat to retrieve events materials.
  • Ability to push/pull equipment carts holding up to 45 lbs.
  • Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
