Description

The Statistical and Data Sciences Program at Smith College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, to begin July 1, 2025.  Successful candidates should be prepared to engage actively with diverse students across the liberal arts. Teaching responsibilities for this position will include 2 courses per semester. The candidate should be prepared to teach introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses across the data science and statistics curriculum, including those covering topics such as data ethics and social justice, machine learning, and responsible and equitable AI. Other courses may be taught depending upon the candidate’s field of specialization. Candidates should have a strong foundation in data ethics, AI ethics, machine bias and discrimination, algorithmic fairness and accountability, or AI auditing and social impact assessments, along with a track record of publishing on one or more of these topics. The incoming candidate should have proficiency in Python and/or R, and candidates with experience in machine learning are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. in data science, information science, computer science, sociology, statistics, biostatistics, or a related field is expected by the time of appointment. Candidates from groups underrepresented in STEM are encouraged to apply.
