Job Description:

The Director of Admissions at Columbus State leads a team of student recruitment professionals, event planners, and international services staff. The function of the Admissions office and team are to attract and serve students, their families, school personnel and other key stakeholders. The office and position are focused on recruitment and outreach and work in collaboration with Enrollment Services offices, including Enrollment Services Operations, for application processing and systems support.

KEY AUDIENCES

The Director collaborates with College leadership on the development of a strategic recruitment plan designed to attract students in categories including:

* Traditional-age high school students (including dual enrollment students taking Columbus State courses while in high school)
* Adult learners, including both prospective first-time college students and returning students
* Students interested in pursuing degrees or certificates designed to launch or advance careers
* Students interested in starting at Columbus State before transferring to complete bachelor's degrees

DEVELOPMENT OF AN EFFECTIVE RECRUITMENT TEAM

The Director leads a team of student recruiters who are deployed across Central Ohio and focuses on helping recruiters:

* Build relationships with prospective students and their families, school counselors, and others who are influential in the communities served by the College.
* Understand and articulate the College's academic and co-curricular offerings by facilitating ongoing dialogue with faculty, staff, and enrolled students
* Develop strong presentation and public relations skills

STRATEGIC RECRUITMENT PLANNING AND TACTICAL EXECUTION

The Director is responsible for identifying and executing activities designed to attract students to Columbus State and help them successfully matriculate. Such activities might include (but are not limited to):

* Develops and executes effective campus visits and visit events
* Strategic selection and purchase of names from appropriate sources
* Communication planning
* Thoughtful geographic deployment of admissions representatives in the College's service area
* Thoughtful deployment of student ambassadors at College events and other visit functions, for telephone outreach, etc.
* Tactics intended to identify and grow a pool of prospective adult learners and maximize enrollment among this key population

COLLABORATION ACROSS THE COLLEGE

The Director will work closely with key College personnel and departments, including:

* Marketing and Communications, particularly to facilitate the development of messaging and recruitment collateral to support student recruitment
* Academic Affairs departments, department chairs, and faculty
* College Credit Plus Services, which is responsible for maintaining relationships with dual-enrollment students, families, and school personnel
* Student Affairs

1) Provides leadership and management and maintains accountability for department operations. Supervises staff and/or supervisors by assigning and delegating tasks, providing direction, resolving work problems, communicating job expectations, training employees, and developing professional growth development opportunities. Conducts annual employee evaluations, and recommends pay increases, promotions and other personnel actions. Approves leaves and authorizes overtime as appropriate. Participates in employee selection process. Administers disciplinary actions upon approval, and in collaboration with Human Resources. Carries out, explains, interprets and enforces policy and maintains responsibility for administering and managing department budget.

2) Keeps accurate records. Completes and maintains required documentation including admissions statistics and enrollment reports.

3) Maintains confidentiality of student records and maintains personnel files and other sensitive information.

4) Works assigned schedule exhibits regular and predictable attendance and works outside of normal schedule as needed to meet workload demands.

5) Performs other related duties as required.

Usual Physical Demands: The incumbent of this position typically exhibits the physical demands identified in the Functional Job Analysis on file in the College's Human Resources Department and which is periodically reviewed and updated. Physical demands listed in the Functional Job Analysis are not job qualification standards, but are used to help the College assess and determine reasonable accommodations for otherwise qualified individuals covered by the American's with Disabilities Act.

While performing duties of this job, the employee regularly exhibits digital dexterity when entering data into computer. The employee regularly sits for extended periods of time, and occasionally stands and walks. Employee converses verbally with others in person and by telephone. Vision demands include close, relatively detailed vision when focusing on a computer screen. Employee occasionally lifts up to 10 pounds.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: management principles and practices [intermediate level]; budget management; program practices, standards and administration. Skill in: verbal and written communications. Ability to: apply management principles to practical situations within a single department or functional area; manage and accomplish results through delegation of accountability and responsibility to management staff; maintain confidential and sensitive information; develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, students, general public, and other job contacts; work with and effectively manage persons of varying cultures and diversity.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and at least five years' experience and demonstrated expertise in admissions, student recruitment, or a similar outreach/promotional function. Work experience in higher education is strongly desired, as is a demonstrated capacity to supervise and lead. Excellent oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate must have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends when appropriate to represent the College at events on campus and in the community. State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree.
